Introduction to 2008 Cody Fire School
Introduction to 2008 Fire School
Dear Firefighters and Emergency Responders,

It is once again time to start planning for the 2008 Cody Fire School. We’d like to invite all of you to attend the 34th annual Cody Fire School, which will be held May 2-May 4. Once again we have added new classes, while modifying other classes to further enhance your learning experience at Cody. New this year will be a different ropes course involving roadside rescue, a ventilation course, off road driving, forcible entry, and a petroleum course. We have tried to bring in some of the best and well respected instructors in the country to teach our classes including John Bartlett (Barricade Fire Gels), Larry Davis (Rural Fire Command Editor for Fire-Rescue Magazine), Ed Hadfield (Firetown Training Specialist), and Lee Ireland.

The Golf tournament is still in the process of being scheduled. Please keep posted on this event via the Fire School website. Also, there will be a new event on Friday afternoon. This event is a Firefighter competition to take place at the Cody Fire Hall. Events in the competition include a dummy drag, hose drag, keiser sled, and simulated overhaul activity. There will be a $10 entry fee for each person participating. You may compete alone or as a team. Prizes will be awarded for the top individuals and departments (at least 4 participants from each department have to participate to get the department prize). Please keep this event in mind when planning your weekend.

Registration will open March 1. Please note that each student will be charged $90, regardless of the classes taken. To register, or to review classes, go to www.codywyomingfire.com . We feel that the on-line system was much easier and faster for you, our customers. When registering on-line please select all classes prior to completing your registration, this will allow the website to monitor for overlapping classes. However, if you wish to register through mail or fax, please contact us and we’ll send you the appropriate forms. Also, keep in mind YOU CANNOT REGISTER BY TELEPHONE. If you have any questions you may e-mail us at codyfireschool@parkcounty.us . Class availability will be kept up to date automatically on the web site.

Be sure to send your registration in a timely manner. There are several other events occurring in town at the same time, so be sure to make your hotel reservations in advance. A late registration penalty of $10 will be charged to any new registrant’s or class changes made after April 30th. Exceptions can be made for substituting another fireman in the event that the registered person cannot make it. We do not at this time accept credit cards, and, for your own protection, please do not send cash. Payment can be made Friday or Saturday at the Cody Fire Station, but please note that you may be subject to a late fee. Certificates of course completion will be withheld until payment is received.

Be sure to carefully read the class description for any announcements regarding appropriate safety gear that will be required for each class. All SCBA bottles must have a current hydro test, and students will be able to fill their air bottles at the Training Center or at the Cody Fire Station. Students should make sure that in the event of an accident, they’re covered by their department’s Workers Compensation policy. All students involved in live fire classes must download and return the release form acknowledging that the student has fulfilled the prerequisites listed.

Safety & Survival in Structure Fires again is made up of 2 parts: a classroom part and a practical session make sure that you register for both sessions to avoid any problems.

This year we will not be using the cafeteria facilities at Cody High School, consequently lunch will be provided to all students at the Cody Fire Station on both Saturday and Sunday.

In closing, we look forward to seeing all of you at the 2008 Cody Fire School.

Regards,
Kelsey Kolstad
John Cordes
