Intro to 2009 Fire School Dear Firefighters & Emergency Responders,
I would like to invite you to the 35th annual Cody Fire School. Classes will start on Friday, May 1 and finish on Sunday, May 3.
Firefighters and Emergency Medical personnel from across the United States make the journey to Cody to attend our school for several reasons. First, we offer numerous hands-on courses that put students in tightly controlled but real-life fire scenes. Several examples are Advanced SCBA, where students our put in a live fire burn building, LPG Fires, and Basic and Advanced Auto Extrication. A recent addition to our class schedule teaches students techniques in forcible entry. A prop is used in this class as well. We also offer standard classes used to gain various fire service certifications. Finally, we do our best to bring world-class instructors to the School. Instructors come from across the country to work at our school, and they are top instructors in their field. The instructors come to Cody to be part of our school not only because of the practical nature of the courses, but also the atmosphere in Cody during the School is second to none.
In addition to classes, we put on a best ball golf tournament on Friday. Registration for the golf tournament is $60 and we’ll make teams the day of the tournament, so don’t worry if you’re the only one in your department wanting to golf. Also, we hold a raffle on the Sunday of the Fire School. Items from bronze sculptures to televisions are raffled off, so be sure to get yourself plenty of tickets.
So, have a look at the web site after March 1 and see what classes you’re interested in. The fee for attending is $90 per student, regardless of the number of classes taken. We will be constructing the registration up until then, so keep in mind that any registrations before March will unfortunately be lost. However, don’t wait too long after March 1 to register. Classes have been known to fill in only a couple weeks so make sure you register early. When registering, be sure to sign up for all of your classes in one sitting, as the web site will double-check you class list to make sure class times do not conflict. And, DO NOT CALLTO REGISTER. If you wish to contact us, the best way is by e-mailing codyfireschool@parkcounty.us.
Be sure to book you hotel room as soon as possible. There are usually other events in Cody over Fire School weekend, and the hotels fill up quickly. And don’t forget your live fire verification form if you register for classes with live fire scenes. The web site will indicate the classes requiring this form.
Take care, and we look forward to seeing you in May.
